Zero Waste Day!

The International Day of Zero Waste on 30 March emphasises global waste management and sustainable consumption to combat waste pollution and address the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

Without action, municipal solid waste could reach 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050. Check out the Global Waste Management Outlook 2024 report published by the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) and the UN here. The report provides an update on global waste generation and the cost of waste and its management since 2018!

Why we care?

Growing up in the Philippines, I saw this first hand. The river close to our place just kept getting more and more filled with rubbish, the houses around it inhaling the fumes. The impact it has on people and the environment is pretty clear. As a child, I thought it was just the norm and that was just part of life. Until I moved to Australia, a developed country, which is relatively "cleaner" in terms of solid waste seen on the streets and waterways.

Waking up to this really motivated us to start this brand not just to get people out in nature to reconnect to them selves...to help clean up waterways in the Philippines, empower the local economy & reconnect people to the wonderful land and waters in the country.

How you can help

There are several ways to help in your own way, big or small. You can commit to clean up and #Take3ForTheSea, start a clean up group, fund mass clean ups, be conscious of your consuption, choose to reuse & repair, buy secondhand and continue to inspire others.

Above all of that, it's a way of thinking. When I did a Circular Economy course with KPMG a few years ago, it really highlighted that waste is a design flaw. Part of the design process needs to take into account the whole lifecycle. Essentially, the circular economy is based on three principles:

  1. Elimination of waste & pollution

  2. Circulate products and materials

  3. Regenerate nature

So, I challenge you to think about that in your life & where can you bring in more circularity and zero waste principles into your way of life.
